Midnights Hallows Eve

Yey! It's my day!
It seems like forever ago I came across Soma's Whims & Fancies post looking for designers for her Halloween Paper Pieced Blog Hop. I just love to paper piece and thought this would be fun. I wrote to Soma and asked her if I could play along and was just so happy when she said YES! Thank you Soma!

I knew right away I had to put a big ole Black Cat in my design....after all, our very own Midnight
would be very put out if I didn't make HER the focus of my very first Blog Hop Block!
Here it is.....
As you can see Midnight is looking at the moon....no face...easy peasey....and maybe she's 'wicked' and maybe she's not.
Click HERE for the PDF pattern
Click HERE for the Layout & Fabric instructions.

This of course is the 'basic black cat' block - you are free to embellish it as you like. In fact I hope you will and perhaps share your block on The Thimblemouse & Spouse Mouse Pics flicker group ...I would so love to see it!

I did decide to put add a few finishing touches to my block ~ in fact I turned it into a little wall hanging. I'm not sure I should show you (of course, you KNOW I Will - lol) because I really would like to see what YOU add to YOURS without being influenced by MINE...then again, maybe this will INSPIRE you and that's okay too!
I added little yellow button eyes...spent an evening embroidering whiskers, nose and mouth
 and a runaway spider web
..and if there is a spider web...there must also be a spider...
I think she's a "Mummy Long Legs"....haha

The stripe accent border was cut 1-1/4"
The bats on purple border was cut 2-1/2"

Today is also kinda special not only because of this truly fun hop....it's also my Birthday! I'm not telling how old...but let's just say I asked for this day to post my block so I would remember
Also I thought it would be fun to celebrate it with YOU and even MORE fun if maybe I gave away a little something...

  5. My favorite birthday memory was about 3 years ago. We had a snow storm here is Georgia and I spent the afternoon and evening out with my kids playing in it! We made snowmen , had snowball fights and sledded down the hill we live on. And guess what? Farmer's Almanac has predicted an other winter storm on my BD in 2013!

  6. My favorite was a surprise party that my kids planned for my 70th birthday. Since my birthday is only a few days before Christmas I always got overlooked. Because my husband is blind, he asked our daughter to buy me something that was "70 yrs worth of bling". Boy, she did.

  7. I had a really good birthday this year. It was my day to be featured on a blog hop too. I got to spend some time with all my children to celebrate together a couple of days later and I got a new DSLR camera. This was just a few weeks ago so we share an October birthday. Hope yours is a Happy one too!

  8. My best birthday was turning 50...my actual BD is in the middle of the year, so I started in Jan. and went to every quilt show I could, including Paducah. After my BD I was, of course, still 50 so I went to Houston! And since I didn't have another BD until June, I went to Paducah again that April.
Every BD is a good one...considering the alternative of NOT having one!

  10. My 23rd brithday was my most memorable. I had just graduated from Texas A&M in May 1983, and my parents gave me a three week trip to Europe that June. I stayed with a college girlfriend for two weeks who was living in Wertzberg, West Germany (Army wife). Who couldn't appreciate Bavaria in the summer! That was my first time to travel alone in Europe. Wonderful memories!

My memory- for my 16th birthday, we dressed up like Raggedy Anne dolls and I had a Raggedy Anne cake. We made our own pull taffy.

  14. Love your kitty block! My favorite birthday was my 10th. I had always wanted a horse. That morning my dad had me go to the barn to feed my pet goats, and low and behold, there was a horse with pink ribbon braided in her mane! We were best friends for 30 years. jbechosend at sbcglobal dot net

  17. Your block is just to darn cute. You have a lot of talent. Happy B'day and thanks for giving a prize when it is you who should get something. I'm also a person who loves their b'day. My family teases me because I always remind them about a month ahead of time that my b'day is coming up. One year I had been dating a guy for about 9 months. I made a 'large' banner and hung it at his house with the date of my b'day on the banner. He got a real kick out of that.

  23. Happy Birthday! What a fun way to celebrate. I too have a black cat named Midnight!! I guess that's a popular name for black kitty's. I think my favorite birthday memory was the year I was about 8 and my mom had all of my friends and I do a scavenger hunt in the neighborhood. It was so unexpected and soooo much fun.

  28. I just put my picture in your flickr group. I didn't stitched his face because he is looking at the moon, so we see his back :-) I found that the fabrics speak for itself so thats why I didn't stitched anything.

  35. Your block is awesome and I am still trying to find time to sew. Guess sleep is sort of overrated LMAO. Hope you had a wonderful birthday and Halloween. Best memories were taking the two kids out trick or treating and one neighbor lady always made my son tell a joke or poem before she gave him anything LOL. He hated it but did it and went every year.
