Today is my day to share with you my "Dare to Dresden" post. Please accept my heartfelt apology for it not being here right now.
Life happens
While my project is done....my pictures are ready (I've even worked up a "cute tute")...
I'd planned to put it 'all together' tonight...
but instead
the Spouse and I are still in shock...
but instead
the Spouse and I are still in shock...
our hearts have been shattered into a bajillion pieces today.
This picture explains all.
Maggie was 12yrs old. She'd started feeling a little poorly over the weekend and developed a cough.
The vet said yesterday there was a cough' going around - we all felt better knowing meds should do the trick.
Maggie went to work with us today like always...but we could tell she was not feeling herself, tho the cough had subsided somewhat. I had just come back from the vets again, with a pill to settle her stomach....
she should be resting more comfortably with us tonight.
Instead....she's gone.
It was quick.
We were still at the shop getting ready to close.
She cried out. I held her. She cried again - and then it was over.
We were so blessed to have her in our lives since she was 8 weeks old...
Lucky that She picked US out to be her 'mom and dad' when we visited the Jacksonville Humane Society.
Since the very first day in her new home - she fit like a glove. Amazing too...because she was, til the very end...surrounded by felines...her best friend was Midnite, whom she, yes, she Maggie...rescued as a kitten caught up in a tree.
Bob and I took her to 'work' every day!
She was The Quilt Shop Dog!
She LOVED quilts! A new quilt in the shop? Maggie was there!
She was our Walmart "greeter" - very rarely did one enter our doors without a tail wagging greeting from Maggie.
She entertained kids and husbands alike.
My favorite memory about 'kids'....Our friend Sandie came to the shop with her new little grandbaby boy...he was in his little baby carrier. Sandie put the carrier down on the floor by the cash counter...we paid no attention that Maggie was 'watching' - when Sandie started to leave and pick up the carrier -
Maggie growled (like I've never heard her growl before) at 'grandma' -
this went on for a bit - I finally had to take Maggie outside so Sandie could take the baby and run!
She was protectin' that youngin' with her life!
I could go on and on...truthfully, now is the time I usually let her out for her last 'hoorah' before bed...
I'm trying to not think about the empty place tonight between the Spouse and I - yes, she was allowed to sleep on the bed...and she did...every night...sometimes even Under the covers! I guess the Spouse will have to warm my feet from now on.

ReplyDeleteso sorry about your loss she looks so much like our Bandit did. One ear up and one ear down was just a mutt... Best dog ever !!!! My Father had a litter at his Farm and had 12 pups her Mom was wild.she had had 6 litters couldn't catch her to get her spade. so I took one pup. she had a white mask and I named her Bandit. she had a black Mom looked like a lab and Dad he was a full blooded Shepherd a "travelin Man" from down the road. He Fathered 6 litters lol. I had to put her down She got so she couldn't stand anymore. It was just so sad .....they just grab your heart. Was the best trained dog I ever had really. If I was on one side of the sliding glass door with someone and she was outside and away from me she would charge the door trying to protect me. She chewed threw the metal utility door with her big shepherd teeth to be with us. Blood everywhere and a big hole in the grates .I could not see how she had any teeth left there was 2 grates to chew thru. another time she broke thru the wooden slatted door and pushed thru tubs stacked 3 high and 2 deep. She had just been at the emergency hospital because she couldn't stand anymore and was falling down. They sure are loyal dogs for sure.!!! she loved Red licorice also u couldn't tear the bag open she be right at your arm pit if she heard the bag open up hehehe .She Did not want to be penned in after she was older and went over to my cousins home through the storm door for dinner at his house. Chewed right threw the screen she smelled dinner was barbequeing outside and we were gone. she smelled food and was going visiting !!!!Hope this makes you laugh a little in your hour of sadness. God bless!!! Debbie Kelly http://somewhereinstitches.blogspot.com

ReplyDeleteI am so sorry for your loss and the toll it must be taking on your aching hearts. God bless and keep you through this time of sadness and bring you comfort and peace. May I tell you my own experience with the loss of my little mate Scruffy..a poodle that kept company with me for 16 years. Following his death I cried so much and felt my heart was breaking until I thought I heard the Lord say to me gently.."give me your dog" I was stunned but then I wondered how I could do that? It occurred to me to mentally lift him up to heaven which I then did and an amazing peace flooded into the emptiness of my heart. I also saw an image of my little black curly boy being carried so tenderly and carefully by the Good Shepherd who watches over all his flock. From that moment on my heart no longer feared but instead knew that my sweet boy was in the best care..the love that he readily gave me was a blessing from the one who made him and brought him to me in the first place. That dear little dog saw me through some of the toughest and unloveliest years of my life..He was the epitome of "Faithful" Every now and then I look up and see a cloud formation that could be mistaken for my curly bundle frollicking across the skies and feel only gladness that he is free and home at last..can't wait to catch up with him again one day!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear of Maggie, but glad your were both there and she went quickly. May she have fun at the Rainbow bridge with my much missed beloved Bubbles and many, many others too.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry for your loss...We've been there recently, and the pain (and the hole) is all too real :( With tears in my eyes, and a lump in my throat, I'm sending a big, soggy, cyber-hug.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry about the loss of little Maggie! That is a hard loss.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about your loss. A pet is a part of the family. I am sure that you provided tons of love over Maggie's lifetime.
ReplyDeleteMy heart goes out to you....we had to put our yellow lab to sleep in May....and our hearts are still broken......it was the saddest thing I have ever done....
